​Foreign missions is hard. All of us have wondered if we have what it takes to beat the odds and be a part of the 50% that stay on the field. Many missionaries are sent from their homelands to see the lost rescued with little to no training. We know what that feels like - the brutal sink-or-swim, life-or-death confrontation with culture, co-workers, and spiritual forces that strive to keep you from bringing people to Jesus.

We started the Great Commission Academy to see starry-eyed adventurers become mature sons and daughters of God who have counted the cost and never give up. We have done our best to address every obstacle that stands in your way.

Students live in the wilderness for three months to gain skills foundational to success on the mission field: personal development, leadership, wilderness skills, living in community with their Cohort, and functioning as a team.  The semester is divided into Outdoor Living, Traditional Living, and Backpacking. There is no tuition charged, however, each person is expected to raise their own support and cover the cost of their personal equipment as well as share in the expenses involved with this entire process.
This semester is two-fold:  learning practical skills and problem-solving.  Instructors provide students with hands-on opportunities to learn skills through direct instruction and application.  A mentality of innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking empowers students to find solutions and resolve problems rather than depend upon others to fix the issues that arise. This builds confidence and is practical for life on the mission field. The power of God, a sound mind, and thoughtful preparation are our greatest tools to solve problems that arise, and the Technical Skills Semester will teach students to use all three.
In the Prayer and Bible Semester, students travel across the United States to MG Anchor Churches where they stay approximately 2-3 weeks at a time for prayer, Bible study, corporate worship, and classroom study. Local pastors and their staff join MG leadership as instructors. Classes from West Coast Bible College and Seminary will be optional. This final semester of the Pre-Field Training will culminate with a time of focused prayer and fasting in relative solitude.​
Missionaries in Training attend Christian Spanish Academy (CSA) in Antigua, Guatemala, where they study one-on-one with an individual teacher. They are introduced to living in a new culture without the pressures of ministry while they study Spanish. Each Missionary in Training must prove fluency in the language before transitioning to their Field Residency. Exemption from Language Training is possible through proof of existing fluency.
A Missionary in Training works as an active, church-planting missionary under directive supervision in the Field Residency program. They will develop relationships with nationals, establish churches, and raise up and equip local leaders who will advance the gospel message within their own country.

Montain Gateway Missions is the heart and soul of Mountain Gateway.  It is the reason that we “Find Workers. Help them Stay.”  We want to see every person come to intimately know Jesus, not just hear about him.  Every part of Mountain Gateway exists to promote the advancement of the Kingdom of God on earth, and MG Missions is the point of the spear.

MG Missions focuses on rural areas and is primarily a pioneer, church planting work that includes children's homes, discipleship, and community development, among other things.  We start with one person and make disciples who disciple others, building a network of churches that affects the transformation of a nation.​
